To be hip or not?

Well of course he would (you know if I never ever hear the phrase "job creator" again it will be too frelling soon), Reich gets it, and Patti Smith talking...

A reader wrote recently and asked me about the Pacific Seacraft Dana 24 which he had decided was the minimum sailboat that he could sail and cruise on... For those not aware of the design it's a very nice boat.

It's also a pretty expensive little boat as a quick glance at brokerage listings showed four listings with asking prices between $56K and $95K...

Yowza!

A very, very similar boat the Bristol 24 which I've written about before shows three listings from $800 to $9500... Fact is, the going rate for a turnkey Bristol 24 is around $2500.

Something of a conundrum... Both boats have very similar specs, performance, and build quality. Both boats are certainly blue water capable and can safely carry a couple anywhere they care to point their bow towards.

OK, the Dana does have nicer bronze ports but, other than that, they are essentially the same boat. So, I'm guessing the difference between the two is a hipness factor... Which, brings up the question, just how important is being "hip" to you?

Just do the math...
