Then again, I once lived on a CAL 20...

About that rule of law, regarding nipples and bullies, and, was it really a "breakdown of communication" or simply about not impacting profits?

I'm 6'5"...

A lot of folks seem to think that being tall is a good thing but the truth is being 6'5" has been more problematic than being an asset. For instance, my center of gravity is too high to be a pro surfer or skier, it's hard to find long pants that fit, 6'5" is not tall enough to play pro basketball (unless you're a fast and agile guard) or get you out of the draft way back when...

However, it is not a problematic thing around boats! Which is funny when you think about it but most of the folks who write to Boat Bits seem to think that full standing headroom is one of the most important factors in cruising boat design.

A comfy cruising interior
For instance, one of the boats I've always admired is "Curlew" a 28-foot (LOD) gaff cutter built in 1898 which Tim and Pauline Carr circumnavigated with and spent no small amount of time sailing in the Arctic and Antarctic. The fact that "Curlew" did not have standing headroom (or a motor/electricity/radio/GPS), apparently, was never a problem...

Tad Roberts recently mentioned that he thought the reason his original "Harry" design did not catch on was all about headroom...
"What I learned was that people really cared about headroom, not about the exterior looks.  The original Harry with sprit rig has only 5’2” headroom under the beams.  This proved unacceptable, I sold a few plans but know of no actual builds."
Which is sad because I've always thought the Harry had an awesome and very livable interior design...

Lucky for us that Tad has decided to bring the original "Harry" design back and now has the plans for sale!

Maybe not for everyone but for those with an open mind who spend most of their time sitting or laying down while inside a boat (actually that would be most of us) a very cool design... I could certainly live in one!
