Somewhat grumpy in paradise...

Just a little rewriting of history, some pretend law enforcement, and a thought for today...

One thing that drives me nuts about the current fashion in maritime discourse is the adversarial style of the x vs y approach...

Whether it's cat vs monohull, next gen anchors vs old gen anchor, or whatever happens to be today's talking point it just gets up my nose.

Face it, boats and stuff on boats either works or it doesn't and spending hours/days/weeks/months debating the suitability of say a CAL 34 vs a Columbia 34 or which windlass is the BEST is getting into some serious anal retentive territory...

Just a word to the wise, but sailing and cruising is not a happy making place for anal retentive sort of folks... Something you might want to keep in mind.

Which is not to say that you shouldn't research and sort out stuff that fulfills it's function and gives good value... Well, that's simply doing your homework. On the other hand, taking it to an obsessive compulsive plane of existence is somewhat counter-productive.
