An easy way to control costs...

About the oil situation, the trend in ocean science, and the nude dude in Portland found not guilty...

I'm not sure about you but the current drought and its affect on the corn crop has me just a little nervous about what it's going to do to the cruising budget for next year. That said, we do live in "interesting times" and being nervous is just a part of the equation...

Of course, when I figure costs are about to go up on some stuff my natural reaction is to see how I can trim expenses in other areas but everyone knows that drill.

We've always found a great way of getting the budget under control is simply to go on a long voyage as nothing seems to cut your day to day expenses like pointing the boat at someplace a few thousand miles away and simply getting gone. Even better when the place you're heading towards is a place known for having a reasonable cost of living...

On another topic, I have been re-reading Jim Brown's rather awesome "Searunner Construction Manual" which is still one of the best books on building a boat on a budget you're ever going to come across whether you're building a tri, cat, or monohull.
