Speaking of outboards, since we've started using our new rowing dinghy (a Bolger Stretched Tortoise/Brick from Payson's "Instant Boatbuilding with Dynamite Payson") we have not used our outboard for over a month. This has had something of a drastic effect on our monthly gas costs which, while obvious in hindsight, was not even considered as a reason to build a boat that did not have an outboard friendly transom...
