Well worth reading in the "we might as well just give up hope" department, not exactly the way I see “general religious and charitable purposes”, and yet another reason not to live in Florida...
I'm a belts and braces kind of guy where boat stuff is concerned and wherever possible my backups have backups.
It was not always that way as you used to have stuff you could fix but modern electronics are designed around the concept of replace rather than fix... Some might call it progress.
I mention this because as our old Garmin plotter is soon to be consigned to an e-waste bin and it's time to move the backup unit (a Hummingbird 785C² for those who care about such things) into the starting lineup which means there is a vacancy for a new backup aboard "So It Goes"...
My choice pretty much revolves around the ability to use the same charts, more or less the same size, and cost. Looking around, the best bang for the buck that fits the bill seems to be the Lowrance Elite 4.
It uses a different (smaller) SD card than the Hummingbird so charts are not compatible...
Frustrating. West Marine even has it on sale at the moment...
