Some days...

Something of interest from Dick Dorworth's brother, the great Toots Hibbert is no longer with us, and in the "Tantamount to mass murder" department...

I'm generally pretty good at sitting back and partitioning the horribleness of the world into the background while concentrating on the positive. It's a talent that has got me through any number of shitshows I've had the misfortune to have observed or participated in. A good thing considering I've found myself in more than my fair share or, to continue with the scatological references a "shitload" of shit shows.

Even so, I'll admit that 2020 has got me down.

It's not just the fact that our current president is a mean, hateful, insecure, narcissistic, empathyless, incompetent racist bully. It's more about the fact that over 40% of the electorate voted for the asshole and will, more than likely, vote for him again. The fact that the guy in the White House was able to bring out the very worst in such a large number of people flies in the face of my belief that, at heart, most folks are good.

Then there's the whole COVID thing. Seriously, it's bad enough that we have a once-in-a-century pandemic going on but the fact that even with more than 190,000 thousand deaths that half the nation can't suss out that it's in their own best interest to wear a mask to protect themselves and others.

Sadly, just reading the news these days is a fraught affair. As it happens so is going to the store and trying to observe social distancing while wearing a mask. It's not just that folks of the seppuku club ilk who choose to neither wear masks or social distance are being suicidal but they all seem pissed off and in your face about it.

Factor in the fact that it's Hurricane and fire season and in the words of the great philosopher Jagger once wrote...

Oh, a storm is threat'ning
My very life today
If I don't get some shelter
Oh yeah, I'm gonna fade away

War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away

Ooh, see the fire is sweepin'
Our very street today
Burns like a red coal carpet
Mad bull lost your way

War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
War, children, it's just a shot away
It's just a shot away

Rape, murder!
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
Rape, murder!
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away
Rape, murder!
It's just a shot away
It's just a shot away...

...come to mind.

So, on a lighter note.
