I just came across a wifi bridge designed for transmitting NMEA 0183 at decidedly non-marine pricing from Yakbitz. Checking out various reviews and forum discussions it seems to actually work. Better yet even though it's coming from Australia the shipping is free.
So, well worth a try and I'll let you know how it goes.
