A good read...

G&T with some needful advice,  bad news for folks in need of an independent media, and in the "Who're you going to believe?" department...

So, I've been reading Fatty Goodlanders new book "Cruising Boat Basics" which I recently bought and it has already become the book I'll recommend to folks when they ask the question

"What's one good book I should read to make sense of this whole cruising thing?"

Which, I suppose, is another way to say it is a very good book. There is a wealth of information presented in a folksy-no-big-deal manner that is easy to digest and covers pretty much all the needful stuff.

So far so good.

Better yet, it's an enjoyable read as Goodlander is not one who takes himself all that seriously and never lets the message get in the way of having some fun in the process.

Of course, it helps that Fatty and I are, more or less, on the same page where boats, cruising, and common sense are concerned. Which is not to say that we don't have a couple or three conflicting opinions but as neither of us feel there is only one true path where boats or cruising is concerned that just adds a bit of spice to the mix.

All in all a good book and needful reading for anyone with an interest in cruising on sailboats.
