Some boats I just like...

Moyers on the US of I, reasonable or unreasonable you decide, and in the ongoing employer/employee conversation...

The other day we were anchored next to a Pacific Seacraft Orion which I'll happily admit is a very cool 27-foot sailboat.

It's something of a big little boat with a displacement of 10,000 pounds and a beam a kiss over nine feet. The designer (Henry Morschadt who you might know from his Downeaster 38 and 41 designs) made the right decision to keep things simple and not to try and squeeze more into it than it could comfortably handle.

Like all Pacific Seacraft designs, the Orion is not cheap and a used thirty-year old example will cost you between $35-60K. Truth be told, it's a great boat but that's just silly expensive these days albeit at a cost of $3.50 - $6 dollars a pound it does not seem too awfully over-expensive.

On the other hand, you might find the occasional deal on one... Stranger things have happened. If you don't, there nothing keeping you from adapting a lot of its good ideas and sensible interior to a CAL, Columbia or some other less expensive boat...
