A plywood reading list...

An interesting conversation, a scary zombie story, and how to build a rocket stove...

Speaking of plywood...

Yesterday I was perusing the current price of plywood of the marine sort and, for want of a better word that does not start with "F" and end in "K", I'll simply say it is crazy making.

Which is not to say you cannot find plywood at a no-longer-cheap-but-still-doable price point. Though, the reality is that deals are few and far between and getting fewer so, if you want to build a big plywood boat, the operative phrase is DO IT NOW!

Tomorrow just may be too late...

For those looking for some reading material on the whole plywood boatbuilding gig the ones on my bookshelf are...

"The Gougeon Brothers On Boat Construction"- While mainly about epoxy it is still one of the best resources around for folks building boats in plywood. A book I refer to all of the time...
"Boatbuilding With Plywood"- Was the standard text on the subject pre-epoxy but still is a must have book on the subject...
"Searunner Construction Manual"- This just may be the best book around on building a plywood boat on a budget. While it is absolutely everything you need to know about building one of Brown's trimarans but all of it is equally useful if you're building a monohull...
"The New Cold-Molded Boatbuilding"- Don't let the words Cold Molding detract you as this book is really about plywood construction. An extremely sensible approach to building a boat and all the various systems involved...
"Build the "New Instant Boats"- As far as I'm concerned, this is really plywood boatbuilding 101. Even better, it gives you dinghy plans you can actually build and use as your tender!
"Devlin's Boatbuilding: How to Build Any Boat the Stitch-and-Glue Way" This takes the stitch and glue  process to a whole new level and, in my opinion, should be read/digested by anyone building or designing plywood boats. That said, I would not recommend reading it till you have read the preceding books...
"Boat Joinery & Cabinetmaking Simplified"- Needful stuff to tie all of the other stuff together...
Listening to the Gaslight Anthem

So it goes...
