A pivotal design...

Something to think about, on being prepared, and Orlov making sense...

Having lived in France for a bunch of years, I would be remiss not to mention the Endurance design by the late Peter Ibold...

Peter was an American designer with a particular signature style that influenced many. My first experience of the design was when I worked in a boatyard outside San Francisco which specialized in turning out ferro-cement cruising boats...

There was something appealing to home builders about the Endurances and, for a while, it seemed like everyone was building one.

When we moved to Paris a French friend called the Endurance 35 the "French Westsail" and seemed quite surprised that the designer was actually from the US as Ibold had set up his design office in Paris.

Like the Westsail, there are lots and lots of Endurances about in all sorts of materials. Certainly a good boat to keep an eye out for as they are a little out of fashion and that, more often than not, makes them a bargain.

You could certainly do a lot worse...
