resources of note...

Yet another reason to take that job and shove it, where the real world and make believe collide, and considering what's going on, this is actually pretty optimistic...

We get our share of emails at Boat Bits Central asking about our opinion of one boat vs another and on the subject of which is the "BEST" boat...

In my opinion, I'm not a really good person to ask those type of questions. For one, I don't believe there is such a thing as a perfect boat or that any question of the X vs Y type should ever get an answer unless you're asking about a boat race.

Which is not to say that some boats don't have issues... In fact, I've never come across a boat that didn't. For instance, most CALs have issues with the i-beam that supports the mast, Catalinas have that smile, Irwins tend to have chainplate woes, and so on. The thing is, if you want to know what's an issue with a particular boat the best person to ask is someone who has one (as opposed to the guy who just has a lot of opinions about boats) and likes it or, better yet, a group of folks who belong to a users group.

Since "So It Goes" is a CAL I'll use it as an example... There is a really excellent group of CAL owners at Yahoo and, if you want to know about the dreaded beam, it's all there with various fixes. Most boats folk are interested in cruising of the classic plastic niche have either a group or a class organization to share problems and ideas.

When I want to research a boat, the very first place I check out is whether there is an owners organization or a Yahoo group. Just recently I needed to check out something regarding the Albin Vega and a quick look to their design association and the Albin Vega Yahoo group sorted out my questions in short order.
