I enjoy working on my boat.
Which is not to say that there are elements of working on boats and "So It Goes" in particular that seriously get up my nose but, for the most part, there's a lot to be said for the whole process of messing around in boats.
Ratty knew of what he spoke.
The best part, for me at least, is that bit of a Zen like clarity while one is doing some mundane repetitive task such as painting which brings all manner of things in to the hyper focal range.
Like...
"Ahhh, finally got the paint Penetrol mix just right!"
or
"So that explains why 35% of the American voters are dumb as a bag of hammers"
or
"Leeboards, yeah the next boat is going to have to have leeboards!"
and,
because music is always a needful ingredient of any boat work in the universe I inhabit...
"Is that bass riff to die for or what?"
Boats take you satisfying places, open your mind, and allow you to expand your frontiers even when you're not sailing...
Just how fucking cool is that?
So it goes...
